Virtual NFL, the Future of the Ultimate Fan.

On November 17, 2006 gatek99, Annonomous, and Packers1Browns2 came together to create a site that would change the way Football Fans would be forever. In a realistic form rarely seen on a Fan Site, each team had a GM and their personal staff. Another revolutionary aspect of this league is the fact that it goes year round. If there is a great DE in the Free Agent market and your favorite team does not acquire him, you can. If you think Brady Quinn will save your team but you don’t have the first pick, you can trade for him. If you’re sick of Pick Vick and want to get rid of him, you can, and Jim Mora can’t do anything about it.

Only 11 days into its existence, there are already 46 staff members on the 32 NFL teams and 6 on the two expansion teams, the Harlem Hitmen and the Los Angeles Minotaurs. As the GMs and their staffs have been putting together their “untouchables” list, VikeFan4eva was putting together sigs for each team, i.e. “The Seahawks Squad” sig which you can see below. There have already been 2099 posts, and counting, and all the rules and regulations for the season are being debated.

The freedom that this league gives you is both complete and refreshing. Already, the Seahawks staff has started entertaining trade offers for Shaun Alexander, the reigning MVP, who had 201 yards on Monday Night!! In the real world that would be unheard of. The one aspect that I believe truly sets this league apart from the rest is the offseason. While the rough patches of the season are still being sorted out, the offseason is what we are all looking forward to. The prospect of taking your Dream college player in the draft to play for your team is mouth-watering, and landing that big Free Agent will spark any team.

Even though there are still many spots open for every team we cannot forget that we are only 11 days into this. The rapid ascension of this league despite the apparent attempts to shut it down by the “Webmaster” has not been an accident. The only negative thing that can be said about this is that we didn’t think of it sooner. Imagining what it would have been like to surprise everyone with the Seahawks last year makes me relive that entire season again.

Hopefully this league will take off and we will have everything ready by the Expansion Draft, which will be held after the Super Bowl. If everyone provides the dedication that gatek99, Niners4ever and Packer1Browns2 have, then the future will be bright for everyone (yes, even the Cardinals).
